Before finding out the niche you want to work on lets find out what is niche blog.

Niche blogging is the act of creating a blog with the intent of using it to market to a particular niche market. Niche blogs (also commonly referred to as “niche websites”) may appeal to “geographic areas, a specialty industry, ethnic or age groups, or any other particular group of people.

This is how Wikipedia explains a niche blog. In my words, a niche blog is a blog in which the blogger writes content that is around a single topic. Like few popular niches are Cooking, Making money online, Business, Motivational Blogs, etc. But before starting the article if you have any doubts about what is niche blog or what is a blog please read this post, “What is a Blog and how is it different from a Website?“. There are some Bloggers who just create content about anything that they seem fit. But if you are creating a blog as a way to create an income source than it is not a good practice.

The most important thing in creating a Niche Blog is that you should have an interest in the topic. You have to write on the topic for years to come. Niche blog can be a great source of income if you are ready to create new, fresh, and updated content multiple times in a weak.

When selecting a niche one should always think twice before finalizing your niche because the one you are set on your niche you cannot change it.

If you want some help in finalizing the niche of your blog make these three lists:

  1. Interests and passions.
  2. Daily reading material.
  3. Past jobs and experiences
  4. Let’s Finalize your Niche

Interest and Passions

This is the most important step in finding your Blog Niche. Your Interest and Passion are the two things that will act as the fuel when you will be creating content for your blog. So just pick up a paper and pen and start writing your interest and passions on the piece of paper.

This list is going to act the most important role in finding your Niche. Make the list and then shortlist the topics you can so passionate about, that you can talk about those topics for years with your audience. Now with this shortlist we have to move to the next step.

Daily reading material

Your daily reading material tells you a lot about you. Now I am not talking about the Newspaper but everything other than that. That means any blog you visit very frequently, the magazine you have subscribed and the type of book you read.

These reading materials tell a lot about you. What you like and what attracts your attention. Do you have an interest in cooking magazines or fashion blogs that call you attention? This can help you find your interest and your passions.

Now make a another list in which you have listed the topics based on your reading material.

Past jobs and experiences

This is the most important list. This list tells you which are the fields you have your experience and knowledge about. Maybe that you are an artist who loves to paint or a pianist who loves the piano. Your past jobs may have the answer to the question you were looking for all along.

This list is of great importance because this list has the items about which you might have the knowledge the most. It may be that you were a freelance data entry professional who has a lot of tricks to get a new freelance job.

What to do next?

Now we have three list ones that tell your Interest and Passions, reading material and your past jobs. Take all those three lists and make a single list which has all the topics which have your interest, you have the knowledge of and if you have some experience in those topics than that would be great.

Now I want you to make this list and there should be a 2-3 Niches in the list. When we have the final list we will do some research on these niches to find our final niche. In the research, we are going to discuss:

  1. How interested are we in this niche?
  2. How much do you know about this niche?
  3. Research your niche
  4. Check the Profitability of your Niche

How interested are we in this niche?

Now you have a very precise list of a niche in which you are interested. Now from this list, you have to organize the list in the order of your interest. now the most interesting niche is on the top of your list.

Try bringing the niche on the top on which you can write even after years. this niche should have interest after a couple of years. a blog is a long-lasting project and if you lose your interest after say 2 years then the performance of the blog will start to go down.

How much Do you know about this niche?

You are supposed to have a good knowledge about the niche. I am not saying that you should know it all but having a working knowledge on your niche is must.

if the knowledge on the topic is less then you have to do research on everything you put on your blog. this will be time-consuming and you don’t want that. if you have a substantial amount of knowledge on the subject then it will be easy and you will be able to give your own insight on the topic instead of reading other people’s blogs and representing other people’s views in your words.

Research your niche

Here are some tools which can help you to research about your blog niche.

  1. Google Keyword Planner: This is a free tool by google. This is a part of Google Adwords which is used to do keyword research.
  2. Google Trends: This is again a google tool that helps you show what is the current trend of your niche. This tool helps you show the popularity of the niche.
  3. SEMRush: This is a Keyword research tool that can also be used to do some research on competitors. This tool helps you know which keyword is your competitors being searched for.
  4. Buzzsumo: This tool again helps to analyze your competitor. In this tool enter your competitor’s domain and it will tell you how many times every post on the blog has social share

These are the basic tools that will not only tell you about the niche of your blog but also tell you the position of the competitor and give the idea of the competitive market.

Check the profitability of your niche

Now we have to talk about money. Admit it we are all doing it for the money. There are different ways to earn money from the blog. One of the most popular ways is Google Adsense. Google Adsense is a Google service that will allow you to show the ads on your blog and will payback for the same. But Google will approve the Adsense account only if the content on your blog is fresh and not copied. Original content is always appreciated by Google.

The other way is to earn through your blog is affiliate marketing. Affiliate marketing is the process of promoting other people’s products on your blog. these products should be somehow related to your blog. if your blog niche is ‘Cooking’ then you could show products related to cooking on your blog.

Now you have made every list, answered every question. Now the niche which passes all test is your niche. I sincerely think that this post helps you to get all the answers you were looking for. I would surely like to hear back from you about which niche you selected.
